Jayy Covert

School Based Change Manager — they/them

As School Based Change Manager, Jayy dreams up and sets in motion innovative strategies to support Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs), youth organizers, and other youth leaders improving schools and creating change. Through youth-led campaigns, statewide events, and leadership development, Jayy is building bigger and better opportunities for youth to connect with Outright and each other.

Growing up as a GSA youth in Florida, Jayy is passionate about supporting youth to create the spaces and communities they envision and organize for liberation. They learned from powerful queer Southern organizers while also connecting with other youth organizers from around the country during their time on the National Trans Youth Council.

They came to Vermont to study Secondary Education with additional focuses on Psychology and Social Justice at Champlain College. Field placements in middle school, experience in an elementary afterschool program, and guest speaking in multiple college courses have all shaped Jayy into a skilled facilitator and educator who can work in comfortable synergy with youth of all ages. They’re thrilled to once again be immersed in the world of youth organizing here at Outright.

If you catch Jayy taking a Zoom meeting from home, you’re likely to see a tail or a pair of cat ears pop up in the background. That’s their sweet furry coworker, Mr. Midnight!
