Second Year Youth Organizer

I decided to become a Youth Organizer because I want power. Not power over other people, or even a disproportionate amount of power, but power nonetheless. I want to learn how to control how I interact with the world and to mold myself into someone who will hurt the least people. I want to learn how to use my skills and privilege to give other people power over what their lives look like, and to teach myself to do the same.

This year, I hope to gain a modicum of understanding, both of people who violently disagree with my opinions and those who do not act on their beliefs. I want to act and organize and attempt to make the world better, but I also hope to become less judgemental in the process.

I am not sure yet if I believe in selflessness, but at the moment I believe that for a society to have any equity we must reward at least the pretense of it. I also believe that any liberated future must include a consistently large helping of agency for all and values of empathy and functional discourse.
