Outfront Educators: Change Starts With You(th)
Calling all Washington County LGBTQ+ and allied youth! Outright Vermont is launching a new peer-to-peer leadership program in Washington County called OutFront Educators for youth ages 13-19. Apply by October 23 to be part of the first OutFront Educators cohort!
We will be recruiting 5-10 youth ages 13-19 across Washington County to join the first OutFront Educators cohort in the 2026-27 school year!
OutFront Educators will train and support LGBTQ+ and allied youth to lead conversations, build community, and create safer, more inclusive spaces for their peers through education, advocacy, and connection.
This is a paid 8-month leadership program that runs from November until June. Outfront Educators will work closely with each other, Outright Vermont staff, peers in their schools and community, the staff at the Aldrich Library as well as local community members and partner organizations. They will learn core and essential frameworks and skills around anti-oppression, anti-adultism, and peer to peer connection. This includes designing workshops, opportunities for political education, and other ways to create opportunities to make youth-led change in their communities. This group will be invited to participate in Outright’s annual statewide events, regional gatherings, youth leadership trainings, and social events.
Key Details About OutFront Educators:
Who: Youth ages 13-19 who reside in Washington County
When: November 2026-June 2027.
Where: Meetings will be held twice a month at the Aldrich Library Teen Room in Barre, VT.
Compensation: This is a paid role with a monthly stipend of $150 - participants can expect to earn $1,200 for the whole program. Participants can expect to be active between 4-6 hours per month.
Food: Dinner and snacks will be provided at each meeting.
Transportation: Outright will support participants with transportation when necessary.

Who is a good fit for this program?
We are seeking youth in Washington County who want to learn, grow, and connect with their peers and broader community. You don’t need to have a high level of leadership experience to be accepted into this program. Your lived experiences in your community often bring strong skill sets that will be useful for our work together.
Skills/interests that might make you a good fit for this program:
Willingness to collaborate with peers and adults
Desire to work on public speaking
Curiosity about youth-centered positive change in schools and communities in WA County
We ask that youth commit to attending two meetings a month at the Aldrich Library, or communicating directly with the program facilitator if they are unable to attend. Outright works with local volunteers to support transportation needs.
Participation Requirements for the 2026-27 Program include:
Attendance at 2-hour meetings twice a month. Meetings will be held in person at Aldrich Library. Dinner and snacks will be provided at every meeting.
- Attendance at three full-day trainings throughout the program on the following dates:
Saturday, November 14, 2026 10:00 am - 2:00 pm (Aldrich Library)
Saturday, February 6, 2027 10:00 am - 4:00 pm (Montpelier - Location TBD)
Saturday, June 5, 2027 10:00 am - 4:00 pm (Benson, Vermont - Sunrise)
About the Application Process:
Apply by Friday, October 23. All youth interested in being a part of the OutFront Educators program must complete this online application. The application will be open from noon on Wednesday, September 16 through midnight on Friday, October 23.
Schedule an interview. Eliza will reach out to schedule a 30 minute conversation over zoom, the phone, or in person between Wednesday, October 28 and Wednesday, November 4.
We will notify you by Friday, November 6. We will email all applicants to let you know if you were accepted into the OutFront Educators cohort for 2026-27.
What will OutFront Educators Do?
Learn Key Leadership and Organizing Skills
Outright Vermont and our partners will teach critical skills and frameworks, such as anti-adultism, anti-oppression, anti-racism, solidarity, and youth directed choice and bodily autonomy.
You'll get plenty of hands-on practice with key leadership skills like public speaking, active listening, organizing, and event planning!
Teach And Learn, Peer To Peer
You(th) are experts in your own experiences, with unique skills and insights to lead change wherever you are. And we know that teens already seek advice, information and support from each other about the topics that matter to them most. We will learn skills and styles of peer education and design ways to share essential information and skills with peers through informal conversations, community events, and interactive activities.
Identify Youth-Directed Advocacy Topics
You(th) know what matters to you and your peers, and what is missing from your official and unofficial education. Together, you will choose areas of focus. Then, working together as a team, we'll design projects, events, and educational opportunities to shift the culture of your schools and communities.
