Matthew DeGroot

Knowledge and Grants Manager — he/him

As Knowledge and Grants Manager, Matthew cultivates relationships with foundation partners who work with Outright to advance our work alongside LGBTQ+ youth. He also coordinates the continuous evaluation of Outright’s programs and the impact they have on young people’s lives, helping our team ensure we’re creating meaningful, lasting change and supporting an organizational culture rooted in reflection, learning, and growth.

Matthew brings to his work at Outright more than two decades of experience in the non-profit sector in Vermont and around the world, securing and managing grants large and small and supporting organizations to build momentum and fuel their missions. He has led and supported countless justice-centered and community-rooted projects on three continents to advance sustainability, education, healthcare, leadership and more. Most recently he was a Political Strategist & Lobbyist with Action Circles, mentoring nonprofit clients in moving meaningful policy change forward. He is also a proud Outright parent, and his partner served on the Outright board for six years.

Matthew knows that helping every young person access and activate joy makes all of us more resilient and that the health of our communities depends on showing up for each other with skill, courage, and heart. He adores words, cooking, complicated board games, and growing any kind of fruit. He is proud of his blueberries, blackberries, black raspberries, grapes, pears, cherries, currants, strawberries, rhubarb, and more! Hit him up at harvest time.
