Lydia Winter

Lydia joined Outright’s Board in 2025 because she believes that being part of Outright is a wonderful way to help give LGBTQ+ youth the love and support they need and deserve. She is particularly thrilled by the acquisition of Camp Sunrise and its boundless possibilities.

Lydia earned a B.A. in English from Colby College and studied at Wroxton College in the U.K. She later attended business courses at Cornell and UVA, and was trained as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Before retirement, she traveled the world in search of unique materials for specialty manufacturers. After transitioning on the job in 2005, she showed business partners in many countries that trans folks can be valued and capable colleagues. 

Lydia has lived in North Bennington for 45 years, the last 20 in a house she renovated and redesigned. Service to her community is a big part of Lydia’s life: she has served on the Bennington Select Board, as North Bennington Village Auditor, and as a member of the McCullough Library board. She currently serves as a Village School of North Bennington Trustee and was recently appointed to the Bennington Community Policing Review and Advisory Board.

Lydia’s superpowers include creative problem solving skills, a dry sense of humor, an abiding love of word play, and unshakeable optimism that young people - including her nine grandkids - can and will save the world.
