Meet Corrine – Youth Coordinator
Hey Everyone! I’m Corrine and I am the Youth Coordinator at Outright. What does that mean? Well, that means that I work with the youth to plan fun and exciting programs and activities. Now, of course, you might be wondering what those programs are? Well…
Every 2nd Tuesday of the Month, I run a program called “Queer Action Night”, which is a group for youth to work on projects that promote tolerance and awareness of queer issues. So far we have worked on projects related to “No Name Calling Week”, Queer Visibility Day, and Video Blogging soon to be posted on our website.
Every 3rd Tuesday of the month, I run an open mic night called “Gender and Java Coffee House & Open Mic”. This program is just as it sounds – a chance for youth to come together and share things in an open mic forum. You can share your favorite poem, a song, a joke, a good story, perk elating thoughts. Really the sky is the limit here, and you also get to enjoy some FREE beverages, snacks, and the company of other cool queers!
Every Friday we run Staff Socials, which is a chance for youth to come to the space and hang out with their friends and the pretty awesome Outright Staff (not that I’m bias or anything!)
Every Friday we run Friday Night Support Group, this is a group run for queer youth to talk about and get support for the issues they are dealing with in their schools, families, and life in general. Youth get to talk with each other and see that they are not alone in their quest to be accepted and feel supported.
I also support Ella (our Programs Manager) in facilitating and running our SASS Academy, which is your authority for queer for queer health and sexual identity info, and Gendertopia which is our after-school program about gender.
Our Center is open 10-6pm Monday – Friday and I encourage you to drop in and say hello. I love meeting new people, and I’d love to talk with you about what Outright can do for you.
Can’t come to me? Well you are in luck, because I can come to you! This year Outright launched Gender and Java. This is a traveling program that we bring to youth centers across the state. In this program we use magazines, T.V. and pop culture to talk about gender and they way people express themselves. This program is completely FREE and we bring delectable beverages and snacks to share! Mmmmmmm
Well that’s just about it from me. I look forward to meeting you and, talking about the exciting work that we can do together!!!!
~Corrine
